Summer Success Academies

Say Yes Buffalo partners with the City of Buffalo, Erie Community College and Buffalo State College to provide a summer transition program for students who are planning to enroll at those schools this coming Fall.

How to Apply

If you are a current high school senior that will graduate in spring 2022 and you plan to attend either SUNY Erie (ECC), Buffalo State College, Medaille College, or Villa Maria College, you may be eligible to participate in one of our Say Yes Summer Success Academies. Please see below for more information and how to access each school’s program.

SUNY ERIE (ECC) PROGRAM

The 2022 SUNY Erie Summer Success Academy is now offering 30 June 2022 high school graduates who are planning to attend SUNY Erie in fall 22 the chance to earn 3 college credits over the summer! For free! And participants can also potentially be paid if they apply for and are accepted to the Mayors Summer Youth Internship Program! The 3 credit course is College Success Skills which will help prepare you for College Success! The program runs Tuesday, July 5, 2022-August 4, 2022. Classroom instruction will be: Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursdays from 9am-12pm. We will have other activities throughout the week, outside of the classroom.

  • We will have to abide by COVID vaccination mandates as well. We will communicate those requirements when we they are solidified for the summer. This includes any changes in mask mandates at the college.
  • Link to the Mayors Summer Youth Application: 2022 MSY Internship application –  deadline April 15, 2022 (students who miss the April 15th MSY deadline can still apply to the Summer Success Academy but will not be paid but will still be eligible to earn 3 college credits).

BUFFALO STATE PROGRAM

The Summer Success Academy (SSA) at Buffalo State is open to 50 Say Yes Buffalo Scholars who have been accepted to begin college at Buffalo State in Fall 2020. The purpose of the SSA is to provide recent high school graduates transitioning to Buffalo State with the academic support and interpersonal skills needed to successfully achieve a post-secondary education.

Some highlights of Buffalo State’s SSA include:

  • Opportunity to earn 6 college credits before starting your first semester
  • College readiness seminars
  • Free lunch and bus passes
  • Fun team-building and leadership activities
  • Earn and learn: Students who apply for the Mayor’s Summer Youth Internship Program can earn a stipend of 20 hours per week

MEDAILLE COLLEGE PROGRAM

The Summer Scholars Program at Medaille College is open to 50 SAY YES Buffalo Scholars who have been accepted to Medaille College. The purpose of the Medaille’s Summer Scholar Program is to provide recent Buffalo high school graduates a head start to transitioning into Medaille College. The program provides academic support, college readiness and team building skills for a successful start to college!

Programming includes:

  • Get a head start on the semester by earning one 3-credit course tuition free
  • Math, English, Reading, Team-building and College readiness sessions
  • Individualized tutoring and mentoring sessions
  • Free breakfast, lunch and bus passes
  • Earn while you learn: Students who apply for the Mayor’s Summer Youth Internship Program can earn a stipend of 20 hours per week

VILLA MARIA COLLEGE PROGRAM

 The Villa Success Roundtable Series (VSRS) is a one-day, free seminar open to all accepted Villa Maria College students. Unlimited Say Yes students can attend. The purpose of VSRS is to provide people who are transitioning into Villa Maria College a connection with support offices, an opportunity to meet other incoming students, and to develop habits that promote success. Students who attend this one-day workshop have better grades and earn more credits during their first year.

Some highlights of VSRS include:

  • Workshops and discussions on college readiness
  • Free lunch
  • Free bus pass if needed
  • Opportunity to meet academic support offices
