How to apply for FAFSA, TAP, and Say Yes, and get help along the way.

Let’s get started!

If you are graduating from a Buffalo public or charter high school, then you are most likely eligible for a full or partial Say Yes Scholarship that will assist with your college or postsecondary tuition! (Read more about eligibility here.)

Getting financial aid and a Say Yes scholarship is a four-step process:

  1. Create your FSA ID, both student and parent(s)/guardian(s)
  2. Apply for the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid)
  3. Apply for TAP (New York State’s Tuition Assistance Program)
  4. Complete the Say Yes Scholarship registration

What You will Need

  • Valid Email Address ​for both student and parent/guardian
  • Social security numbers – for student, and parent(s) if applicable 
  • Parents birth dates and dates of marriage/divorce if applicable 
  • Permanent resident card (if you have one) or Alien Registration Number if applicable 
  • 2022 Tax return (federal & state)/ record from two years prior for 2024-2025 school year
  • W2 or documentation of money earned from other sources
  • Siblings names/social security numbers if enrolled full-time in college also
  • NYS ID number (Driver License number)
