Summer Success Academies

Say Yes Buffalo partners with the City of Buffalo, Erie Community College and Buffalo State College to provide a summer transition program for students who are planning to enroll at those schools this coming Fall.

How to Apply

If you are a current high school senior that will graduate in spring 2016 and you plan to attend either Erie Community College or Buffalo State College you may be eligible to participate in one of our Say Yes Summer Success Academies.

ECC PROGRAM

The Summer Success Academy (SSA) at ECC is open to 50 SAY YES Buffalo Scholars who have applied to Erie Community College, completed the ACCUPLACER® placement test, and have placed into one or more developmental courses. The purpose of the SSA is to provide recent high school graduates transitioning into Erie Community College with the academic support and interpersonal skills needed to successfully achieve a post-secondary education.

Some highlights of ECC’s SSA include:

  • Academic readiness is English and math
  • ESL reading and writing—for bilingual students
  • College readiness seminars
  • Fun team-building and leadership activities
  • Earn and learn: Students who apply for the Mayor’s Summer Youth Internship Program can earn a stipend of 20 hours per week

To apply, submit the Summer Success Academy application and completed Mayor’s Summer Youth Internship application with required documentation as indicated by April 29, 2016 to receive a stipend. Students may still apply to the SSA through May 31, 2016, however in order to receive the MSIP stipend applications are due April 29, 2016. Applications are available in your high school guidance office, by calling (716) 270-5114 or through email at SayYes@ecc.edu.

BUFFALO STATE PROGRAM

The Summer Success Academy (SSA) at Buffalo State is open to 50 SAY YES Buffalo Scholars who have been accepted to begin college at Buffalo State in Fall 2016.  The purpose of the SSA is to provide recent high school graduates transitioning to Buffalo State with the academic support and interpersonal skills needed to successfully achieve a post-secondary education.

Some highlights of Buffalo State’s SSA include:

  • Opportunity to earn 6 college credits before starting your first semester
  • College readiness seminars
  • Free lunch and bus passes
  • Fun team-building and leadership activities
  • Earn and learn: Students who apply for the Mayor’s Summer Youth Internship Program can earn a stipend of 20 hours per week

To apply, submit the Summer Success Academy application and completed Mayor’s Summer Youth Internship application with required documentation by April 29 if you want to be eligible for the paid stipend or by June 1 if you do not.

MEDAILLE COLLEGE PROGRAM

The Summer Scholars Program at Medaille College is open to 50 SAY YES Buffalo Scholars who have been accepted to Medaille College. The purpose of the Medaille’s Summer Scholar Program is to provide recent Buffalo high school graduates a head start to transitioning into Medaille College. The program provides academic support, college readiness and team building skills for a successful start to college!

Programming includes:

  • Academic readiness is English, Math, and Reading
  • Individualized tutoring and mentoring sessions
  • College readiness sessions
  • Team-building and community service activities
  • Earn and learn: Students who apply for the Mayor’s Summer Youth Internship Program can earn a stipend of 20 hours per week

To apply just submit the regular application for admission to Medaille and let the Admissions Office know you are interested in participating in the Summer Scholars Program, by May 21, 2016.  You must also submit the Mayor’s Summer Youth Internship application with required documentation as indicated by April 29, 2016 to receive a stipend.
